No matter how well planned we are, life always finds a way to catch us off guard. A young couple from Alabama have taken their minds by giving birth to two sets of identical twins within 13 months of each other.

The couple first welcomed twin boys.

Britney and Frankie Alba, a young couple from Alabama, welcomed their twin sons, Luke and Levi, in 2021. Just 6 months after becoming parents for the first time, Britney found out she was pregnant again, but not even in her wildest dreams could she predict that their family of 4 would soon be a family of 6.

The Albas wanted more kids, but they didn’t expect their second pregnancy to bring them twins. Britney recalls her husband joking around, saying, ’’Are you sure it’s not 2?’’ The ultrasound technician took a closer look and confirmed that there was indeed a second heartbeat: “I was definitely in shock, but I was excited,’’ Frankie says.

Nobody in their family ever had twins before.

According to the happy couple, twins don’t run in either of their families, so the news was pretty incredible: “I would have never guessed in a million years that I would have one set of twins, much less a second set,” Britney said, adding that she wasn’t scared: “I remember thinking, ’OK! Round 2,’” she says.

They were blessed with a pair of gorgeous girls.

This time around, the couple was blessed by a set of gorgeous girl twins, Lydia and Lynlee: ’’We were super excited. But it was like a laughing-and-crying-at-the-same-time moment,” the 27-year-old mom admitted. While twin pregnancies are common, having 2 consecutive sets of twins is much less likely.

This type of twinning is very rare.

What’s even more unique is that the girl twins are so-called ’’MoMo’’ twins, which means they shared the same placenta, fluid in the womb, and amniotic sac. This is quite rare, as it occurs in less than 1% of all births in the US. Not only that, but this kind of pregnancy is considered high-risk, so Britney had to spend a lot of time in the hospital before giving birth. Luckily, both girls arrived healthy via C-section in October 2022.
